Delegates to the State Convention will vote on the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Party Platform and Rules, as well as the RPT Legislative Priorities for the 89th Texas Legislative Session.

If you have not already done so, please familiarize yourself with the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Platform and Rules so you will be better equipped to testify and vote.

Legislative Priorities for the 88th Session (2023-2024) of the Texas Legislature

Watch the interview below with RPT Chairman Matt Rinaldi to learn more about the Republican Party’s role in shaping policy, the influence of liberal Republican donors, the importance of the detailed Party Platform, and buzzwords used at convention that can help identify those who cater to special interests instead of empowering the grassroots.

Prepare for Convention: Caucuses & General Sessions

Delegates and alternates will caucus by their Senatorial District (SD) for state party business and their Congressional District (CD) for national party business. There will also be General Sessions where you sit with either your SD or your CD. Signs will be posted telling you where to sit and your SD and CD numbers will be on your credentials received at registration.

The future of our party will be decided by the delegates in San Antonio. The Republican Party continues to stand on our conservative principles while forces work to pull us to the left. This is why Conservatives must stay the course and vote for our conservative SREC members during their SD Caucuses. ―Dale Inman, SREC, SD 4

Senatorial District (SD) Caucus - Twice during the convention, delegates will meet together with all the other delegates from their same Senate District to hold a Senatorial District Caucus.

During the second SD Caucus on Friday morning, delegates will vote for State Party Chair and Vice Chair and elect a State Republican Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman (SREC) from their Senatorial District. Your vote is very important in electing those who will forward grassroots priorities!

Congressional District (CD) Caucus - Twice during the convention, delegates will meet together with all the other delegates from their Congressional district to hold a Congressional District Caucus.

During the second CD Caucus on Saturday morning, delegates will vote for delegates and alternates to the Republican National Convention, a Presidential Elector, and a National Committeeman and Committeewoman.

General Sessions - These are sessions where everyone is on the main floor of the convention center together. There will be signs telling you where to sit. Look for your SD or CD number, found on your credentials, so you sit in the right section with the Montgomery County delegation.

Alternates - Where to Sit

Alternates are seated in a separate section from delegates. Your delegation leader will let you know when a delegate is missing and an alternate is allowed to be seated for voting.

Prepare for Convention: RPT Chair, Vice Chair, & RNC Elections

Delegates to the State Convention also will elect the State Chair, Vice Chair, and a National Committeeman and Committeewoman to represent Texas on the Republican National Committee (RNC).

The candidate forum below provides an opportunity for you to hear from all five candidates for Republican Party of Texas Chair. Texas Representative, Dr. Tom Oliverson (HD 130), who is running for Texas Speaker of the House, also makes an appearance to talk about his priorities.

Grassroots America - We the People interviewed all 11 candidates for Republican Party of Texas Chair and Vice Chair. Each interview is approximately one hour. Click below to watch the videos.

Lunch & Learn Breakout Sessions

These sessions are typically very informative and worth your time. Lunch is not provided, but you are welcome to bring your lunch into the session.

Tips & Reminders From the RPT Convention Committee

  • Wear comfortable shoes! This is a large convention center and there will be lots of walking from the convention floor to the caucus rooms. If you need a scooter or wheelchair, information on renting one can be found here.

  • Bring a pen. You’ll need to vote in caucus and having something to write with makes this go much quicker. Many delegates find a notepad is also very handy.

  • Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the convention center, however, there are multiple options for purchase.

  • While the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and the Republican Party of Texas allow firearms in the convention center, you are responsible for knowing the laws and policies at your hotel and the surrounding areas you may enter.

  • Representatives of the media will be there. You don’t have to talk to them if you don’t want to, but they are our guests, and we hope you show them proper Texas hospitality.

  • If you encounter protestors, please ignore them. We have security on-site; they will handle it. You don’t need to get in a shouting match with anyone.

  • Don’t forget to stop by the exhibit hall and meet our amazing sponsors and party supporters. We couldn’t put on a convention of this size without their help. The exhibit hall is open Wednesday from 2-6pm, Thursday and Friday from 7am-7pm, and Saturday from 7am-3pm.
