The Woodlands Township Director, Position 5

Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is serving her second term as The Woodlands Township Director, Position 5, having first been elected in 2019.  Before winning her position, Dr. Sekula-Gibbs ran a medical practice in Clear Lake, was the U.S. Congresswoman for TX-22, and served on the Houston City Council, at-large for three terms.

Her motto is “Keep The Woodlands Wonderful,” where her goal is to preserve the vision of George P. Mitchell of The Woodlands being “a place where generations live, work, worship, learn, and play,” and to make it even better for future generations.

Her Work So Far on The Woodlands Township Board

Dr. Sekula-Gibbs says she has a passion and commitment to listen to and advocate for the residents and businesses of The Woodlands. In her time as Director, she has worked collaboratively with elected officials, agencies, and residents “to lower property taxes, improve public safety, enhance amenities, support business development, improve transportation, and mitigate flooding, while preserving the beauty of our hometown within a natural forest.”

Current and Future Projects

With the looming 50th anniversary of The Woodlands Township in 2024, along with the completed build-out of both residence and business space, Dr. Sekula-Gibbs sees redevelopment with modern innovation as essential, whilst keeping to Mitchell’s vision a necessity. She notes that business and sales taxes are a big part of that development. “To sustain redevelopment and the favorable hotel and sales taxes, I am working with the board to reinvigorate our world-class amenities, support tourism, expand our convention facilities, and plan for future creation of a performing arts center.”

Her Priorities

Dr. Sekula-Gibbs is an active member of her church, and she and her husband support numerous local charities. “I try to live by the Lord Jesus’ words, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,’ and to ‘be professional, be charitable, and be persistent.’ I stand for the American flag and I kneel before God. My priorities are God, Family, Country and Community.”

It is well documented that the Texas Democratic Party's Project LIFT specifically proclaims a “special focus on winning local, non-partisan races.”

The Montgomery County Republican Party's bylaws allow for the County Executive Committee (CEC) to endorse an identifiable and uncensured Republican in a non-partisan race when the other candidate(s) is identified as non-Republican.

Therefore, the Montgomery County Republican Party of Texas endorses the reelection of Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs for The Woodlands Township Position #5 in the November 7, 2023, General Election.
