Trustee Tiffany Baumann Nelson (Position 1) is one of the newest members of the Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees. Nelson ran on the “Mama Bears” slate with two other conservative candidates, Melissa Dungan (Position 2) and Misty Odenweller (Position 3). All three won their elections and were sworn in on Nov. 18, 2022.

Nelson is passionate about protecting students from inappropriate and radical indoctrination, empowering parents, and encouraging teachers. She believes that children need access to quality education rooted in excellence and reflective of the values this nation was founded upon. Her campaign motto was, “empowering parents and putting students first.”

“I believe strengthening relationships between teachers, decision-makers, and parents is the only way to improve outcomes and I aim to ensure that Conroe ISD remains one of the leading districts in Texas,” says Nelson.

Background

Nelson attended 20 public schools as a child and was the first in her family to graduate from college. She supported herself through college earning her undergraduate degree in business and a master’s degree in Christian Ministry. Currently Tiffany works as the Executive Director of Keep US Fed Montgomery County whose mission is to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste. She also leads worship at her church.

Why Nelson Ran for CISD Board of Trustees

Her children’s experiences at school and comments from fellow parents led her to run for school board.

“My husband and I share six children and five attend CISD schools. I am seeing and hearing things from parents that are concerning,” she says. “I’m not a politician, I am a working mom. But someone needs to take a stand and put parents back in the driver’s seat in their child/children’s education, reflecting the values of this community. I believe it was indicative of the results of the election when I took 51 percent of the vote in a five person race.”

Respect for parents is essential to Nelson as a Trustee. She believes in transparency between schools and parents. “My number one goal is protecting parents’ rights. Nothing should be hidden from parents regarding their minor children,” she says.

Her Work So Far on the CISD Board

“Upon being elected in November, I have been a part of challenging the content of library books and working to enforce a new policy that removes selections that violate the Texas Penal Code,” says Nelson.

“Meeting with and hearing the concerns of parents, teachers, and paraprofessionals is essential. It’s also important to meet with other districts and their conservative board members as well as mentors on the state board of education and other experts in their fields because iron sharpens iron.

“I’ve completed my training, but refused the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) training and sent in a statement to the Senate State Affairs Committee regarding SB 175 and defunding woke TASB.

“Over Spring Break the Mama Bears went to the Capitol and met with and gained an ally in Attorney General Ken Paxton, and later met with Senator Angela Paxton who’s currently working on a bill that will help back our work with legislation.

“I’ve also attended dyslexia and special education workshops on how our district can have greater student outcomes and improve literacy.”

How You Can Support Conservative Members of the CISD Board

“Residents can keep letting their voices be heard! Change only comes when voters speak, like they did in the election. Our children, teachers, parents, and taxpayers deserve quality education focusing on the basics (math, science, reading, history) and the values this great country was founded upon,” Nelson says.

Conservatives are outnumbered on the CISD Board of Trustees. You can support the conservative board members by becoming informed, attending board meetings, and contacting board members and the superintendent on issues. School boards and superintendents often base their decisions on “Community Standards,” which are determined by the voice of the community. It is important for conservatives to have a large presence at these meetings to counter Leftist agendas.
