Update: Legislation regarding Colony Ridge did make it out of committee on an 8-3 vote on Thursday, Oct. 19.  Now it goes to the full House, should they meet again.  Currently, they have adjourned until Monday.

Do you want to have your say on the large community of illegal immigrants and cartels taking up residence just 30 miles from Montgomery County?  Here’s your chance.  

The House of Representatives State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 in room E 2.016.  On the docket is HR 4, a bill authored by Representative David Spiller of District 68. Also listed is Colony Ridge, the development garnering national and state attention for its high crime rate associated with illegal immigration.

The bill would prohibit the illegal entry into or illegal presence in Texas by an alien, the enforcement of those prohibitions, and authorizing the removal of people who violate some of those prohibitions in lieu of arrest.

It also concerns public safety, security, environmental quality, and property ownership in areas like the Colony Ridge development in Liberty County, Texas.
